Incredible Display
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra has an incredible display that delivers the best portable entertainment experience. It has a 14.6 inch screen with a 16×10 aspect ratio. This is just as tall as a 12.9 inch iPad Pro, but it is about 20 percent wider. This means that if you are watching a 16×9 or wider content, then the video would be 44 percent larger on the Tab S9 Ultra. This is a dramatic difference in size and it does translate to a more immersive experience.
Lightweight and Thin Design
The Tab S9 Ultra is also very light, weighing just 732 grams. It is also very thin at just 5.5 millimeters thick, making it thinner than most phones. It almost feels like you are just holding the screen of a large laptop. The front is made of Corning Gorilla Glass, while the back and sides are aluminum. The matte finish feels nice in the hands and the overall design is minimal.
Battery Life and Performance
The Tab S9 Ultra has a long battery life of up to 15 hours. It also has a powerful processor and 8GB of RAM, making it capable of running multiple apps and games at once. It also has a microSD card slot for expandable storage.
Design
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra has a sleek design with a small logo on the side and a slight groove for the S Pen. The camera design is new, with two individual lenses, which are smaller than on the S23 Ultra.
Display
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra has a bright 930 nits peak display, which is brighter than last gen and looks impressive for HDR content when in direct sunlight. The only tablet that is brighter is the 12.9 inch iPad Pro, which can hit 1600 in its peak. The OLED screen has pixel level dimming, which makes content look great. The colors are also great, with a feature that lets you connect it to a Windows computer and use it as a second screen.
Performance
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra has a high refresh rate and HDR capability, which makes it great for watching movies and shows. It also has great local dimming, which makes it great for watching YouTube videos. The tablet also has a feature that lets you connect it to a Windows computer and use it as a second screen.
Display Input
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a great tablet, and one of its features that really stands out is its display input. It has an IP68 rating, meaning it can withstand full immersion in water, and the S Pen is also IP68, so you can write or draw underwater as well. The tablet has thin bezels all around, and even had to include a notch to fit the two front cameras. This makes it a great portable monitor, and should still be a great choice even if the Android version and SOC become outdated.
Entertainment Experience
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra also provides a great entertainment experience. It has stereo speakers, which really complete the experience, and the wider aspect ratio makes it more immersive than the iPad’s 4×3 aspect ratio. The screen is 120 hertz, making it very smooth, and the fast pixel response time of the OLED helps as well.
Gaming Performance
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is also great for gaming. It has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, which is the same as in the latest Samsung flagship phones. However, it is noticeably faster than those phones because it has more room to dissipate the heat. After 20 minutes of intense gaming, it can maintain 83% of its performance, whereas the S23 Ultra can only sustain 65%.
Performance
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra and the iPad Pro have similar performance for shorter gaming sessions. However, if you play a more intense game for longer than a few minutes, then the Tab S9 Ultra is faster and not only for gaming.
Productivity
The Tab S9 Ultra is great for productivity. It has the same aspect ratio and size as most laptops, and the extra width is more comfortable for having two windows side by side. The only time the form factor of the iPad Pro is missed is when trying to write things while holding it, which is rare. However, when a Surface is available to put it down, the extra screen real estate is appreciated. The Tab S9 Ultra has almost 3,000 pixels horizontally with 239 pixels per inch, making it sharp enough for almost any task. Even when leaning in to write on it, no pixels are visible. The 12.9 inch iPad Pro has a slightly higher pixel density, but it is very hard to tell the difference and the Samsung tablet delivers one of the most similar experiences to writing.
S Pen
The S Pen comes included with the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra and it is as light as a regular pencil. Its shape is very similar to the Apple Pencil being rounded, with a flat edge, but the rubberized tip gives much more feedback while writing on the screen. The Apple Pencil is heavier and feels a lot more slippery for writing text and taking notes.
So if you’re watching a video, you can have a pop up window for a chat app or something like that.
S Pen
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra offers a great advantage over the iPad Pro with its S Pen. The S Pen has very little input lag and tracks very well with no jitters. It also has great pressure and tilt sensitivity and can be stuck to either the back side or the top edge for easy access. Unfortunately, the S Pen cannot be charged on the edge, so occasionally it has to be put to the back to charge.
Multitasking Support
The multitasking support on the Samsung tablet is great for productivity. Up to three apps can be opened in split screen and most used apps can be saved to the taskbar for easy access. The icon gives access to the entire app library in the split screen mode. Dragging and dropping between apps is easy, even for photo cutouts. Although the split screen sizing adjustment can be jarring, it can be turned off using Good Lock Multi Star. App pop ups are also available, allowing users to keep a chat app open while watching a video.
Split Screen and Edge Panel
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra offers a split screen and edge panel feature that makes multitasking easier and more efficient. With the split screen, users can open two apps at the same time and use them side-by-side. The edge panel allows users to save pairs of apps to quickly launch them in split screen.
Samsung Dex
Samsung Dex is a feature that gives users a desktop-like experience on the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. It allows users to open multiple apps and resize them, place them anywhere, and use hotkeys to snap the windows to half the screen and corners. It can also drive an external display up to 4K resolution, but users must enable this with a good black multi star.
Multitasking and Replacing a Laptop
Samsung tablets are the best for multitasking and replacing a laptop, but they are not as far ahead of the iPad as they were last year. The iPad Pro now has the stage manager feature which allows for easy shuffling between many apps and can also fully utilize an external display. However, stage manager is not as nice as Samsung Dex as users cannot resize the app and put it anywhere they want. Apps must follow the script system, where they will always snap to the closest size and location, and some apps on the iPad will not be resized to the shape that users want.
Performance
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is powered by a Snapdragon 888 SOC, which is more efficient than conventional x86 CPUs. This makes it a great choice for replacing a laptop, as it can handle most common tasks like writing, checking emails, and watching videos without any fan noise.
Battery Life
The Tab S9 Ultra has an 11,200 mAh battery, which is more than enough to last for a few hours of 4K video streaming at 60% brightness. After three hours, the battery was still at 84%, which is impressive. It can also be quickly topped up with its 45W fast charger.
Storage
The Tab S9 Ultra has 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded with a Micro SD card slot. This makes it easy to add more storage at a very affordable price.
Storage Capacity
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra offers up to 1 terabyte of storage, while the 12.9 inch iPad Pro offers up to 16 gigabytes of RAM. However, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra also offers the option of using an SD card for additional storage, which is not available on the iPad Pro. This makes the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra a great choice for those who need additional storage but don’t want to pay for the extra RAM on the iPad Pro.
Price
The top-of-the-line Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the same price as the 12.9 inch iPad Pro, but the Apple Pencil must be purchased separately. However, if you are willing to use an SD card for additional storage, the pricing actually favors the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra.
Case and Keyboard
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra comes with a “magic case” that turns the tablet into a laptop, complete with a kickstand and a keyboard and trackpad that magnetically attaches. This is similar to the iPad’s Magic Keyboard, and they are the same price. However, a normal case and a Bluetooth keyboard can provide similar benefits at a lower cost.
Note Taking Apps
Android tablets have traditionally struggled with apps, but now there are many good note taking apps available for Samsung tablets. GoodNotes is one of the most popular note taking apps, and it is now available on Android. This makes the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra a great choice for those who need a powerful tablet for taking notes.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a great tablet for a variety of uses. It has lots of great features and is well suited for lots of different use cases. It comes with a year free of Samsung Notes, which supports text and handwriting that can be mixed freely. You can customize the page color and style, and the tablet also has a screen off memo feature where you can start writing on the screen without having to turn it on. The pen colors are neon and look really cool, and this does save directly to Samsung Notes.
Note Taking and Journaling
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is great for note taking and journaling. It has OneNote and Penway, which is a great app for digital journaling. The large screen feels really great for writing, and also for drawing diagrams, charts, and whatever else. Unless you have very particular needs, there is no note taking or journaling app on the iPad that is much better than what is available on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra.
Creative Work
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is not as good for creative work as the iPad. There are decent apps on the Android side for photo or video editing or graphic design, such as Canva, which feels great to use on the S9 Ultra, and Infinite Painter, which is pretty good for drawing. However, the major companies in this space often prioritize the iPad, for example, Affinity Photo and Design are only available on the iPad, and Photoshop on the iPad.
So if you like to customize your device, then the tab S9 Ultra is definitely a better choice.
Performance
The latest M2 Chip in the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is quite a bit faster for day to day use than the iPad Pro. Some games and more resource intensive software can definitely take advantage of the M2 Chip.
Cameras
The Tab S9 Ultra has a wide and Ultra wide camera on both the front and the back. The back cameras are not great, but they are good enough for the times when you need to take a photo or video with a tablet. The front cameras are not really any better. The ultrawide selfie camera can do the auto framing thing where it will try to follow you around, but it actually looks like its 480p.
Software
The Samsung software is quite a bit more customizable than iPad OS, even in iPad OS 17. It has this menu with a bunch of S. Pen features you can edit it and even add apps there and something thats, not writing or drawing related. So if you like to customize your device, then the tab S9 Ultra is definitely a better choice.
Specialized Apps
Just has much more features than Photoshop Express on Android recently, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro have also released iPad versions. So if your regular work involves those software, then the iPad is a much better companion device. Of course, I dont know about every specialized app in every Niche, so let me know if there’s any uniquely good, app on either iPad, Os or Android.
