Lenovo ThinkBook 14s Yoga (2021) Review: Expandable RAM!!!
This is the limited edition abyss blue version of the think book 14s yoga here for 2021 it’s, a 14 inch convertible laptop geared towards small to medium businesses and i’ve, been super impressed with it. I, like its two tone: color, as you see here in this exclusive design. I also like the all metal build the fact that you can put it into the different modes, that being a two one. Convertible pen is already garaged in the device, so it’s always handy and convenient on the spot, and it also has really good battery life we’ll get into that and more. It also has a full hd touch display, hey everybody, it’s andrew – and this is my review of the lenovo thinkbook 14s yoga here for 2021 coming up Music and as we take a look at the specs, i want to let everyone know in the interest of transparency And full disclosure i’m not being compensated by lenovo that means i’m not getting paid by them, they’re not getting copy approval. All the opinions you’re about to hear are my own, and no one is seeing this video before it’s released. That means lenovo is seeing this video for the first time, just like you now, this review unit is on loan from lenovo, and once this review is done, i’ll be sending it back now. I did unbox this on my live stream last week and for those that didn’t see it i’ll put the link in the description below for the replay, so you can check it out and don’t forget.
I live stream every sunday, 9 a.m. Pacific time don’t forget to check it out this upcoming sunday starting price is 967.85 i’ll, put the link below for more information and where you can buy it, and i think that’s competitive pricing and it is geared towards small to medium businesses. But i think consumers would like this as well let’s find out why, with specs and pricing, out of the way let’s find out what you get inside the box, let’s open it up inside the box, you get a 65 watt, usbc charger that’s, the typical charger we Get from lenovo we’ve seen that one before you get an extension cord as well as some documentation, which includes warranty information and a setup guide now, what we have here is an all metal design. Now this is the limited edition abyss, blue it’s, a two tone color and i absolutely love the way it looks now: 3.3 pounds or 1.5 kilograms. Definitely not the lightest 14 inch convertible out there, but definitely portable to take with you on the go. One thing to note: it does attract fingerprints rather easily. You will be wiping it down quite a bit. Okay, as we always do, let’s check out the port selection. We’Ll start off on the left side, where you get a usbc 3.2 port, a usb 4 thunderbolt, 4 port that’s good to see an hdmi 1.4 b port, a usb a port and a 3.5 millimeter audio jack.
Moving over to the right side, you get a power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner, a micro sd card slot, usb a port and finally, a kensington, lock board and, i have to say, that’s a pretty good port selection and i love the fact they include The pen at no additional cost it’s garaged on the right side, where you can charge this pen it’s using the wacom aes technology it’s, the lenovo integrated pen we’ve seen that before we’ll get into that a little bit later, as well. Now, to get inside this laptop lenovo makes it pretty easy. All you need to do is remove the t5 torx screws pop off the bottom plate and you’re in it’s. That simple and the good news is there’s a lot to upgrade here. There are two ssd slots: ssd number one takes up to one terabyte of m.2, 2280 ssds and ssd number two takes up to one terabyte of m.2 2242 ssds a lot of options in terms of storage here, and i like that and the ssd that comes with The laptop gives it some excellent reads and writes, as you can see, from the results and as far as ram is concerned. Well, there’s, eight gigabytes that are soldered into the motherboard. But there is an open sodium slot that you can add up to 32 gigabytes of ram, giving you a total of 40 of ddr4 3200 ram and that’s really good news. I like to see that not something we see normally anymore on these laptops and it’s.
Also good to see that the wi fi card is socketed in as well. That means you can upgrade it down the road now speaking of that wi fi card you’re, looking at wi, fi, 6 and bluetooth 5.1. Both are working well on those fronts and, while we’re inside you’ll notice that it has a single fan for cooling and you’ll, also notice that it has a 60 watt hour battery and speaking of battery life. It did 11 hours and 30 minutes on my continuous web surfing test over wi fi at 115, it’s meaning you’ll get all day battery life with this convertible that’s really good, and this supports rapid charge, giving you an 80 charge in about an hour full charge. You’Re. Looking at an hour and a half and that’s really good now as far as the display is concerned, what we’re looking at here is a 14 inch. Ips multi touch display with a resolution of 1920×1080. That is a full hd resolution and it’s rated at 300. Nits. Now i measure 288 nits, which is not the brightest out there. I would like to see it above 300 nits, but at 288 inch you’ll, definitely be fine indoors outdoors and direct sunlight. You may have some issues because this is a semi glossy display, so you might get some reflections or glare as a result. So keep that in mind. It has some really deep blacks, good white points and excellent contrast, and it has a relatively low delta e score to make it a color, accurate display.
It also covers the color gamut really well: 95 percent srgb 71 adobe rgb 70 of the dci, p3 white color gamut and 65 ntsc, making this a good choice for content, creators that do lightroom, photoshop and, of course, video editing. Now, of course, i would have liked to have seen a 16 to 10 aspect ratio, as opposed to 16 to 9, but the benefit of 16 to 9, of course, is that you’ll be able to consume media on this without any black bars on the top, and The bottom it’ll be optimized for watching netflix, amazon and youtube and that’ll be great, but when it comes to productivity work i definitely prefer 16 to 10 with more vertical space. That means you’ll do less scrolling when it comes to web browsing and, of course, it’ll be better for microsoft, word and office documents as well, but don’t get me wrong. This is still an excellent display, nonetheless, with really thin bezels on the top sides, and a little bit of a chin on the bottom, which is normal for a convertible laptop and the benefit of this being a yoga convertible device is that you can put it into The different modes, that means you can put it into tent mode great for recipes in the kitchen, great for consuming media, watching netflix, amazon and youtube. The same can be said for the stand mode and of course, you could always put it into the tablet mode.
This is great for use with the pen. Now, as i mentioned earlier, the pen is included at no additional cost. It is garaged in the device. That means you can charge and store it in the device which is really convenient. Now, as far as the pen is concerned, it’s great for taking notes sketching out artwork. It is working well use the wacom aes technology and for those that find it a bit too thin. You can use third party alternatives to give you a bigger size and a better grip, and for those wondering you could sort of open it with one finger, but again, this being a convertible that sturdy hinge will prevent you from opening it up all the way. Now you want to have a sturdy hinge, of course, since you’re going to put it into the different modes. Presumably now, as far as the keyboard itself is concerned, you get those smile, shaped keys, we’ve come to know with the lenovo yoga line, they’re here and it’s. Pretty good in terms of tactile feedback, pretty good key travel, and it also has a multi stage backlight that allows you to get work done in a dark room or a dimly lit environment. So this is going to be good for productivity. It also has a precision touch pad and it’s working well, very responsive two finger scrolling is buttery smooth and all the gestures work as you’d expect. Well, this is the front facing camera on the thinkbook 14s yoga here for 2021 it’s, a 720p camera, not infrared.
That means you cannot log in with windows, hello with face recognition. You’Ll have to use the fingerprint scanner for that, but it is a 720p webcam and once again, i’m a little bit disappointed in the low quality webcams that we’ve been seeing from all the brands. No exceptions here – the best of course, has been from microsoft in their surface line, check out my review of the surface pro 7 for a good example of what a 1080p infrared webcam should be, at least here in 2021. I can’t wait to see what they have coming up as well, but as far as this camera is concerned, is it good? Is it for sum or skype yeah it’s going to be adequate, but is it good not really i’m curious to know what you think? Let me know in the comment section below now: the power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and i got ta say it’s working well, registering my finger each and every time i used it very fast, very responsive. Now this is running 11th gen processor from intel it’s. The core i5 1135 g7 with integrated iris xe graphics, now we’ve seen this chipset before we saw good numbers from other laptops, but it’s interesting to note that lenovo went with a very conservative approach here, going for more quieter cooler experience when it comes to thermals and As a result, we don’t see quite as great performance as we saw as some other laptops running the same chipset now.
Having said that, for microsoft, office, email, web browsing, everyday tasks, you’re perfectly fine. Everything was handled quite well, but when you, when it comes to things such as video editing, more processor intensive tests such as gaming you’re, going to see a little bit less frame rates when it comes to some of the games. We checked on some of the other laptops here, lower frame rates, but still definitely playable again if you lower the settings, but this is something to keep in mind again. They went with a more conservative approach here now when i ran the prime95 stress test. They would turbo boost up to about 2.8 gigahertz at 58 degrees celsius, again very cool that would last for about only a couple of seconds and then it dropped down to anywhere between 600 megahertz to 1100 megahertz, maintaining the very cool 58 degrees celsius. Now the surface temperatures never get very hot again. The name of the game here is keeping this laptop cool. It also has remained very quiet, as the fans under heavy load were not too noticeable and that’s really good. But again they sacrifice performance for the thermals here. Okay, let’s wrap it all up what i think about the lenovo thinkbook 14s yoga here for 2021. I really like it. I, like it sharp high contrast, display, dolby vision display is really great for consuming media. Thanks to that 16 to 9 aspect ratio runs quiet and cool, very good keyboard, very good port selection, thunderbolt 4 support here you like to see that all day battery life, especially on a yoga, especially geared towards small to medium businesses, that’s really good it’s got a Second, ssd slot for storage expansion.
I love that upgradable ram, something we don’t normally see, which can give you up to 40 gigabytes of ram in total here and that’s, really good pen stores and charges in the device. I love that, but it has a relatively dim display so that’s one thing i would like to see improved in the next iteration, although it is good for indoor use and they also did take a conservative approach when it comes to performance, which leads to a much Quieter and cooler laptop, although you don’t get quite the performance you get in other laptops running the same chipset that’s, something you might want to consider. But overall, i think this is a great laptop i’m going to give it a score of 88. Making this a great choice for those small to medium businesses and those consumers that want a nice looking laptop that won’t break the bank, that is a convertible. This may fit the bill Music.
