Edit Any RAW DJI Drone Photo For FREE In Lightroom Mobile!
Editing raw photos in high contrast, scenes like sunrises and sunsets is a fantastic experience compared with editing jpegs, so something that you and i, as aerial photographers will really benefit from. Ωστόσο, if you want to edit those photos by and large you’re going to have to pay to access the software required to do so using adobe lightroom the industry standard as an example, it costs 10 ανά μήνα. So if you’re, a casual user that’s, quite a commitment. Just to edit the occasional photo now i’ve made a discovery that i think is very interesting, and i think you will find it interesting too. Adobe lightroom has a mobile version of the app for your phone and your tablet, and it is free now that’s a well known fact, but the issue with that mobile version is that if you want to edit raw photos, it will only allow you to edit them. If they are in dng format, there are many different formats for raw photos, whether you have a canon, camera panasonic, sony whatever, but the dji format is dng, so you don’t have to do any mad conversions or anything like that. As long as you can get those raw photos onto your tablet or your phone, you can use the lightroom mobile app with virtually no restriction and benefit from a free raw photo editor and take advantage of all of that fantastic power contained within these drones. Music getting started is super easy go into the app store on your phone search for lightroom and download the app you will need to create an adobe account so just go ahead and enter your details.
Sign up for it skip the option of signing up for a seven day, free trial of the premium app and get straight in to the free app. Now that we’ve got the app installed, we need to get our raw photos from our drone onto our phone or tablet. Now i was hoping that you could just go into the dji fly app in the case of the mavic air 2 tap on the little album button, select the photo that you’re interested in and then download it to the phone and then add it to your heart’s Content, the only issue with that is that it will only download a jpeg of that photo, even if you shot jpeg plus raw, you only get the jpeg downloaded to the phone direct from the drone itself, so we need a workaround. The first step is to physically transfer the files themselves from the drone’s sd card onto your computer. Έτσι, Ωστόσο, you normally do that. I would take the sd card out i’d put in a little adapter. That then goes into this adapter. That then goes into the macbook pro and i just drag them across onto the computer’s hard drive. So you just do that. Ωστόσο, you would normally do it. This next bit is really simple, but it might not be the same for you depending on what kind of computer you’ve got. So you might just have to use a little bit of your own initiative or interpretation to figure out how to apply it to your personal set of circumstances.
But let me show you it’s really really easy on a mac here we have an icloud account. It’S kind of by default, if you have a mac system, if you have an iphone at least so we access the desktop application here of icloud, and you see once we’re logged in there’s icloud drive. So we click on icloud drive and within here we can just create some folders for online storage of those files that we just copied to the computer. Όπως μπορείτε να δείτε, we’ve already created a folder called dji dng photos, but if you need to click on that little icon up there and create a new folder once you double click on that folder, μπορείτε να δείτε. We’Ve already got one photo in there, but quite simply just drag and drop from finder the raw photos that you want to have in that cloud: storage back inside the lightroom mobile, app tap the add photos, icon and you’ll – see we’ve got a couple of options. Εδώ. Add photos from camera roll or from files. The camera roll is, Φυσικά, just the standard place where your phone saves its photos, but we want to see what we’ve got in the files folder. How about that within the lightroom mobile app, we have an exact duplication of the folder structure that we had in our icloud and there you can see dji dng photos tap on that folder to show the files within those are the files that we just uploaded to The cloud and then tap on those files to download them into the lightroom app.
Έτσι, όπως μπορείτε να δείτε, i’ve opted for a cloud based approach for getting the raw dng files from the drone onto the phone. Now there might be other options available to you, depending on your device. I don’t have any of these devices, but you might be able to get something like this, για παράδειγμα, that plugs into the bottom of your phone, and you can make a direct transfer of the files straight into your folder structure within your mobile device. So by all means check that out, as i say, i need you to think a little bit kind of laterally on your own behalf for this one, but either way it’s fairly straightforward. Doesn’T. Take that long and we now have the capability to edit those raw photos for free within the lightroom mobile app i’ll, give you a quick run through of the app. This is not intended as a complete kind of color correction, color grading tutorial. Παρεμπιπτόντως, we do actually have a full tutorial on lightroom the desktop application. Where we take you through all of it and like all our videos, we don’t just show you the buttons. We show you what they mean and how you can really use them to. Try and help you think like a photo editor, as opposed to just following the steps blindly, because i tell you what to do. I don’t find that very useful. I want you to understand what different things do so do check out that food tutorial for lightroom, because the controls and the tools are exactly the same inside the mobile app.
So if you don’t know what a curves adjustment is, για παράδειγμα, then you’ll find out what it is in that full lightroom tutorial. So please do check that out. Let’S try this shot at the bottom here of the big hotel now, so it fills up the screen. A little bit more let’s adjust our composition, let’s crop it into the sides, a wee bit see if we can get that path, kind of running up the middle of the shot well give or take that will do it’s a good starting point. Τώρα, as with any video editing when it comes to photo editing, you want to do your color corrections. Πρώτη, before you get on to the creative grading side of things so by color correction, we’re talking about exposure adjustment, saturation adjustments and what’s the other one that i’ve completely forgotten about white balance. Adjustments before you get onto the creative side of things, so exposure adjustments well. I’D like to bring a little bit of brightness out in the ground there, because you can see we’ve retained a lot of detail in the sky, but the ground is a little bit underexposed. Τώρα, with the free app you don’t have the option of doing gradient filters. So i’m not going to do that here. So what we’ll do to try and get around that problem is since the ground tones. If you like, fall within the mid tones and the shadows let’s see if we can pull the shadows out a little bit and brighten things up a bit, yeah it’s doing a pretty good job of things there.
Another trick you can try is bring the exposure up of the whole thing we’re looking here at the ground, that’s the thing that we want to make brighter okay, but now that’s also brightened the sky. Now the sky in this case is made up mainly of highlights. So let’s pull those highlights back down just to retain some extra detail in the sky. At any point in time, all you have to do is just tap the photo and you’ll see the before and the after, and you can see there we’ve made quite a significant adjustment to the exposure within the light module. You can also make a curves adjustment and, as i say, if you want to find out what this is all about, do check out that full lightroom tutorial that we have, but essentially it allows us to add some contrast without moving our black and white points. So within our predefined range that we’ve already set or just left, as is we can add some pop and, όπως μπορείτε να δείτε, it can have quite a significant impact. So i think we’ll go with something like that. I’Ll take a little bit of that. Out of the mid tones, but just for the sake of demonstration we can do that so we’ve done our color corrections here i don’t think we’ve got any white balance adjustments to make, but if we did want to, we can go into the color tab and we Can play around with the colors as we wish i don’t think we’ll do really too much there.
This is a sunset shot. The sun’s low in the sky, so the building which is white in color, does have that yellow glow, scroll down and you’ll see vibrance and saturation adjustments. Vibrance is quite good because it increases the intensity of the muted tones as opposed to the entire image. So that can be quite a nice thing to do, αλλά και πάλι, in this instance, we’ve got some quite nice strong colors. One super powerful thing i want to show you here within the app, Ωστόσο, είναι: if you go up to the top of the color panel and tap on that mix button that gives us our hue saturation and luminance sliders. You can have so much fun with this and it’s really intuitive here in the app let’s say we wanted to play around with the color of the grass. Καλά, we could go to the green or yellow tones here and try and figure out which one affects the grass the most or we can just tap on that cross here and in this instance, we want to adjust the hue, so you can see we’ve got hue Selected down at the bottom of the app here hold our finger on the grass and just drag up or down to see what difference it makes to those colors. Now i really like bringing the greens and grass down into the reds a little bit. I think it has just a slightly warmer tone to what can often look like quite saturated grass shades when you see it straight off the camera so let’s, just for the sake of an exaggerated example, do something like that.
Another cool trick. If we wanted to boost the exposure of the bottom half of the image, but we don’t have gradient filters is let’s increase the luminance or the brightness of those grass tones. So we tap on the luminance option there we still have our crosshairs selected. So we go back to our grass tones and let’s just bring up the luminance of the greens and i think it’s doing a pretty good job, actually it’s, adding quite quite a bit of pop to the grass tap on the crosshairs to come out and we’re done. With that, a quick before and after before, after pretty huge transformation, and we didn’t even have access to our gradient filters, which we would normally probably use to boost the exposure of the bottom half of that image very quickly. Let’S look at some of the effects, texture and clarity. I love them both, but they need to be used with great discretion. Texture is really cool. It just adds a little bit of detail. You could say around the image and i really like it. I mean there if you slide it all the way to the top it’s, probably a bit much so we’ll put that up a little bit and clarity. This is the classic one. You see all the time and it’s just like no don’t do that, but it is kind of cool for these landscape shots. So i don’t know let’s just add a little bit of that for now.
Let’S give dehaze a miss just now and add a little bit of a vignette just to bring a little bit of center focus on the image. Και πάλι, you need to go easy on that. We’Ll feather that out a little bit more so it’s, not so obvious and we’ve got a really really strong image there. I like it a lot another before and after before, after sweet, absolutely love it. If you want a better understanding of what these various controls mean within the lightroom app then do check out our full lightroom tutorial, it’s the desktop application. But as i say, the system is exactly the same and the techniques are exactly the same and you’ll learn a lot i’m sure of that by watching that video. So the link’s up there it’s in the description below that’s all for today, i’m, not even trying to sell you anything don’t, really have anything to plug or sponsor in this video.
