Introduction
The Xiaomi Pad 6, coupled with the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2, has garnered attention from artists and art enthusiasts alike. The previous model, Xiaomi Pad 5, left room for improvement in terms of its drawing capabilities. In this review, we will assess whether the Xiaomi Pad 6 has addressed the issues faced by its predecessor and if it truly delivers as a drawing and illustration tool.
The Xiaomi Pad 6, along with the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2, is a great option for those who are into illustration and drawing. In this review, we will explore the capabilities of this tablet and pen combination.
The Design and Construction
The Xiaomi Pad 6 boasts a very premium design and construction, resembling that of the iPad Pro or Tab S9. This is quite impressive considering its affordable price. Additionally, the tablet comes with a charger included in the box, which is a nice touch. However, it is worth mentioning that Xiaomi could improve in this aspect since it is expected for chargers to be included with a tablet purchase.
One notable design detail is the small bezel on the screen, making it more comfortable to hold despite its flat corners. This feature adds to the overall user experience and demonstrates Xiaomi’s attention to detail.
The Format of the Tablet
A few months of using the OnePlus Pad as my tablet has made me realize that the 16:10 format of the Xiaomi Pad 6 and most Android tablets is not ideal for tablets. The elongated shape does not provide the best user experience, in my opinion. I believe the 5:7 format found in iPads and the OnePlus Pad is more suitable for tablets. It offers a better balance between usability and content display.
Sound and Speakers
The Xiaomi Pad 6 comes equipped with very impressive speakers. However, they fall a step behind the speakers found in the OnePlus Pad, iPad Pro, or Tab S9. Nevertheless, they are still perfect for watching videos, movies, or playing games. The sound quality is clear and immersive, enhancing the multimedia experience on the tablet.
Camera Quality
While the cameras on the Xiaomi Pad 6 are not exceptional, they are sufficient for making video calls or scanning drawings and documents. It is important to note that this tablet is not designed to be a photography powerhouse, so it would be unrealistic to expect top-notch camera performance. Nonetheless, for everyday tasks that require a camera, the Xiaomi Pad 6 gets the job done adequately.
In conclusion, the Xiaomi Pad 6, paired with the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2, has made improvements in terms of its drawing capabilities. The tablet’s design and construction match that of more expensive devices, making it a great option for budget-conscious artists. However, it is not without its flaws, such as the elongated format and camera limitations. Overall, the Xiaomi Pad 6 offers a solid drawing experience at an affordable price point.
Performance
The XIAOMI PAD 6, equipped with a Snapdragon 870 processor, may not be the most powerful tablet on the market. However, it performs exceptionally well in everyday tasks such as drawing and editing apps. Despite not having the latest and most powerful processors, it holds its own.
To test its performance, I deactivated and activated all the adjustment layers of one of my large projects in Krita, which is a demanding task. Surprisingly, it took only 4 seconds to render, making it comparable to tablets with much more powerful processors. Just to put it into perspective, my tablet with an i5 13600KF and an RTX 3070 takes about a second to render the same project, which is four times faster. Nonetheless, it is impressive to see the XIAOMI PAD 6 handle it so efficiently.
Experience in Apps
When it comes to using drawing and editing apps like Infinite Painter, Lightroom Clip Studio, Paint, Nomad School, and others, the experience is just as smooth. The performance and usability remain impeccable, despite the processor being a few generations older. It is truly a testament to how well the tablet is optimized.
Gaming and Video Editing
If you’re looking to use the tablet for gaming or video editing, the XIAOMI PAD 6 provides good power but falls short of the newer processors available. While it can handle the tasks, there are definitely other tablets with more impressive capabilities in this regard.
Heat Issue
With normal usage, the tablet does heat up, although it is not necessarily bothersome. This is expected with most tablets. However, even during sketching, I noticed that the XIAOMI PAD 6 tends to heat up more than usual. It’s not a deal-breaker, but definitely worth noting.
Performance
The XIAOMI PAD 6 comes with either 6 or 8 GB of RAM, depending on the storage option. After testing all three variants, I have found that the only significant difference lies in the number of layers you can create in certain drawing apps. In Infinite Painter, for example, with 6 GB of RAM, you can create up to 81 layers on a DIN A4 canvas. However, with 8 GB of RAM, this number increases to 125. If you are someone like me who typically works on projects with dimensions around 2500×3000 pixels and with around 100 layers, then 6 GB of RAM is more than sufficient. Even if you optimize your projects and reduce the number of layers to 70 or 60, 6 GB would still be enough. However, if you work with larger formats and use a significant number of layers, then you might consider opting for a higher RAM configuration. It is worth noting that when it comes to using apps like Krita or Clip Studio Paint, the limit of layers is not determined by the RAM, making 6 GB sufficient for general usage.
Power and Processor
The XIAOMI PAD 6 base model offers good power, suitable for gaming or video editing. However, if you require even more capabilities in terms of processing power, there is a Pro model available with a better processor. Unfortunately, this Pro model is not officially sold in Spain.
Video Output
While the XIAOMI PAD 6 does have video output, I have only been able to duplicate the screen and have not found any features similar to Samsung Dex or the iPads. Thus, if you are specifically looking for advanced video output capabilities, this tablet may not meet your requirements.

Screen Duplication and Multiple Monitor Support
Just duplicate the screen for the moment. You’ll see if that’s useful to you. For me, no. And I hope Google gets their act together and starts supporting several monitors from Android because these powerful chips could give a lot more of themselves and even serve as a main work equipment for many people.
Powerful Performance
This tablet is as powerful as the sponsor of this video, which is me. With the Snapdragon 870 chipset, it offers impressive performance for graphic-intensive tasks like illustration and drawing. It can handle demanding applications and allow for smooth workflow.
A Complete Course in Artestation
I have a complete course in Artestation of about 3 hours in which I teach you how to make stunning illustrations on this tablet using Krita. In the course, I share my work process, tricks to draw and paint, and the final tricks that we all love. Normally priced at 20 Euros, you can now get it with a 25% discount. So hurry up and take advantage of this offer. Those who have already bought it are delighted with the course, so don’t wait any longer.
Battery Life
The tablet offers decent battery life, providing approximately 6 hours of screen usage when used for work with medium brightness. However, if you push it to its limits, the battery discharges quickly. This may be attributed to the Snapdragon 870 chipset, which tends to exert more effort to maintain the same pace. On the positive side, the tablet supports fast charging of 33 watts, allowing you to fully charge it in about an hour.
In conclusion, the XIAOMI PAD 6 and Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 are great tools for artists and graphic designers. With its powerful performance and compatibility with applications like Krita, it offers a seamless and efficient drawing experience. Furthermore, the tablet’s battery life and fast charging capabilities ensure that you can work without interruptions. Don’t forget to check out my course in Artestation for a comprehensive learning experience. Happy drawing!
Battery Life
The battery life of the Xiaomi Pad 6 is exceptional. Personally, I find it to be very good. It offers a long-lasting performance that allows me to use it for extended periods without worrying about running out of battery. This is definitely a positive aspect for those who use the tablet for illustration and drawing purposes.
Screen Quality
Moving on to the screen, the Xiaomi Pad 6 boasts an impressive 11-inch panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate. It utilizes S IPS technology, which provides excellent viewing angles and good contrast. The screen is also incredibly sharp, thanks to its high resolution and pixel density of 309 pixels per inch. In fact, it is the sharpest tablet screen I have ever seen.
Color Accuracy
When it comes to color reproduction, the Xiaomi Pad 6 does not disappoint. It offers a saturated color mode that delivers vibrant and vivid colors. It covers 100% of RGB, 92% of Adobe RGB, and 100% of DCP3, resulting in accurate and lifelike colors. Moreover, the screen has some impressive delta values, with a range of 1.98 and maximums of 6.32. This means that it is a reliable screen for color-critical work.
Professional Color Mode
Interestingly, the Xiaomi Pad 6 also includes a professional color mode, as seen in its predecessor, the Xiaomi Pad 5. However, this mode does not provide the best results. It restricts the color range of the screen to RGB only, which negatively affects color precision. Therefore, my recommendation for users is to stick with the saturated color mode for optimal color accuracy and vibrancy.
Improved Drawing Experience
The XIAOMI PAD 6, paired with the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2, promises an enhanced drawing experience. One of the key improvements is the better inclination detection, which works seamlessly now. The pencil fits well and is of superior quality compared to the previous version, which felt quite plastic. Additionally, they have managed to reduce the lag in the pencils, making the drawing process smoother.
Enhanced Magnet Placement
The new XIAOMI PAD 6 features improved magnet placement, allowing for a better grip and easier handling. The tablet securely attaches itself, thanks to the decent magnets. This small but significant improvement ensures a stable and comfortable drawing experience.
Configurable Buttons
Another advantage of the XIAOMI PAD 6 is the option to configure the buttons in various applications. With two physical buttons instead of touch ones that are prone to accidental presses, the tablet offers greater convenience and control. However, there is room for improvement in terms of compatibility, and developers should work towards refining this aspect.
Snipping Lines Issue
Despite the improvements, one aspect that still needs attention is the snipping of lines when drawing slowly or not so slowly. While the issue has been somewhat reduced and become more tolerable, it is still noticeable. Other tablets, such as OnePlus Pad and iPads, have better performance in this area. It is worth noting that this is a limitation that cannot be entirely resolved through software updates.
Drawing and Illustration Review: Xiaomi Pad 6 + Xiaomi Smart Pen 2
Pencil Compatibility
One common concern among users is pencil compatibility. Each tablet typically works only with its designated pencil, except for those that employ Wacom technology. However, it is important to note that the Xiaomi Pad 6 is not compatible with other pencils and does not support Wacom technology. Therefore, users must rely on the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 for their drawing and illustration needs.
Digitalizer Technology
The Xiaomi Pad 6 utilizes digitalizer technology, which affects the screen’s resolution and compatibility with the stylus. While some users may desire a higher resolution, such as 4K, the physical limitations of the digital panel restrict it to full HD resolution. This limitation is unrelated to the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 and cannot be resolved through software updates.
Inclination Detection
One significant improvement in the Xiaomi Pad 6 is the enhanced inclination detection. Although not flawless, the inclination detection has significantly improved from the previous model. While there is still slight variation when drawing slowly, it is less noticeable when drawing at a normal speed. It is worth mentioning that this variation is not as bothersome as it was in the Xiaomi Pad 5. However, there is room for further improvement in this aspect.
Pressure Detection
The pressure detection of the Xiaomi Pad 6 is commendable. Merely touching the screen activates the pressure detection, and it does not require excessive force to reach the maximum pressure sensitivity. It is noteworthy, though, that compared to other pencils, the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 requires slightly less pressure to achieve the desired effect.
The Drawing Experience
The Xiaomi Pad 6, along with the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2, offers a decent drawing experience. However, it falls short compared to other pencils in terms of control. The pressure levels are satisfactory, but the real pressure range leaves much to be desired. Although the pencil has seen improvements, it still needs more time to become one of the top-notch drawing tools.
The Issue with Gestures
One of the major drawbacks I have encountered while using this tablet is the lack of compatibility with gestures. Xiaomi does not allow users to disable its split screen gestures, which creates inconvenience when using applications that have their own gestures. Most applications contradict Xiaomi’s gestures and cause frustration for the user.
Thankfully, there is an exception to this issue. HiPaint, for instance, works smoothly without any conflicts. However, in applications like Infinite Painter, I faced difficulties in altering the brush size or undoing actions. While I did discover a workaround, it is far from comfortable to execute. By separating three fingers like a predator preparing to strike, the tablet detects the input. Alternatively, pressing with one finger followed by two and dragging can also achieve the desired result. Nevertheless, these methods are time-consuming and inconvenient compared to the simplicity of other tablets.
In the Xiaomi Pad 5, I vaguely recall the option to disable these gestures, but that is not the case here. I strongly urge Xiaomi to allow users to disable these gestures or prioritize the gestures of other apps. This feature is incredibly frustrating and greatly hinders the drawing experience on this tablet.
The Drawing Experience: Xiaomi Pad 6 and Xiaomi Smart Pen 2
When it comes to drawing and illustration, having the right tools is essential. The Xiaomi Pad 6 paired with the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 offers a promising drawing experience.
A Control Advantage
One notable advantage of the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 is its tip, made of a rubbery material. This provides better control when drawing on glass surfaces compared to other stylus options, such as the OnePlus Stylus, which tends to slip. This improved control is generally appreciated, although it does have its downsides.
Skidding and Braking
However, the rubbery tip of the pen does have its drawbacks. When the screen is not completely clean, the stylus tends to skid or hit the brakes. This can be quite bothersome for some users. In addition, using a textured screen protector may not be advisable for this tablet as it affects the drawing experience without offering significant improvements.
A Decent Drawing Experience
Despite the minor issues mentioned, the overall drawing experience with the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 has been positive. Some users may find that they need to use the stabilizer more frequently when working on intricate lines, but this can be adjusted individually in apps like Infinite Painter. It’s worth noting that this aspect wasn’t emphasized in the review of the Xiaomi Pad 5, although it remains an important consideration for artists.
Perfect for Taking Notes
While the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 may have some quirks when it comes to drawing, it truly shines when it comes to note-taking. With apps like Touch Notes, the stylus flaw is hardly noticeable. If your primary use for the tablet is taking notes, then I highly recommend it.
Pricing and Conclusion
The Xiaomi Pad 6 is priced at 400 Euros, with the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 priced at 100 Euros. This brings the total cost to 500 Euros, although it may be possible to find it at a lower price. Considering the drawing and note-taking capabilities, the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 offer a solid option for artists and students alike.
Introducing the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Xiaomi Smart Pen 2
Are you good at drawing? If you’re in the market for a new tablet to enhance your artistic skills, let me introduce you to the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Xiaomi Smart Pen 2. In this review, we’ll take a closer look at the features and performance of this affordable option for artists and designers.
Competitive Pricing
The Xiaomi Pad 6 offers a competitive price point compared to other tablets in the market. Two years ago, the basic iPad was released at a similar price. However, Apple has since raised the price and with the pencil, it now costs 550 Euros, with only half the storage. The real iPad, the one I recommend, along with the pencil, goes up to 700 Euros. On the other hand, the Tab S6 Lite is available for 300 Euros but lacks the same performance as a tablet. For just 100 Euros more, you can get the OnePlus Pad, which I believe is the best value for money option for artists and general users.
A Great Tablet for Various Uses
The Xiaomi Pad 6 is not only a fantastic option for artists but also for general users. Whether you need a tablet for gaming, taking notes, photo editing, or 3D modeling, this tablet can handle it all. The pencil flaws may not matter if you are not primarily focused on drawing, or if you are comfortable using stabilizers. In these cases, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is a versatile and capable tablet that offers a great user experience.
Line Quality
If you are not someone who uses a lot of lines or is not familiar with drawing in a digital space, then I highly recommend the Xiaomi Pad 6. However, if you are a tattoo artist or a comic artist who heavily relies on lines, there are other tablets available in the market that may offer better line quality, such as iPads, OnePlus Pad, or Samsung tablets.
Affordability
One of the advantages of the Xiaomi Pad 6 is its affordability. If other tablets seem too expensive for you, then this is definitely a viable option. While you may need to use stabilizers to enhance the line quality, with a little attention and practice, you can still achieve satisfactory results.
Xiaomi Pad 7 Expectations
Although the Xiaomi Pad 6 is already a great tablet, we can hope for even better performance in its successor, the Xiaomi Pad 7. Hopefully, they will further improve the quality of the pencil to make it even more suitable for artists. Having more options in the market only benefits us, the users.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is an excellent tablet for illustration and drawing purposes. It offers a long-lasting battery life, a high-quality screen with impressive sharpness and color accuracy, and a variety of color modes to choose from. While the professional color mode may not provide the best results, the saturated color mode ensures vibrant and accurate colors for your work. Overall, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is a reliable and powerful tool for artists and creatives alike.
Overall, the XIAOMI PAD 6 coupled with the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 offers an improved drawing experience compared to its predecessor. The inclination detection, pencil quality, magnet placement, and reduced lag contribute to a more pleasant drawing process. While there is still room for improvement, such as addressing the snipping lines issue, the tablet remains a viable option for artists and illustrators.
In conclusion, the Xiaomi Pad 6, accompanied by the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2, showcases noteworthy improvements compared to its predecessor. While it still has room for enhancement, particularly in inclination detection, it performs admirably for drawing and illustration purposes. If you are looking for a capable drawing tablet, the Xiaomi Pad 6 may be a suitable option.
Overall, the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Xiaomi Smart Pen 2 offer a compelling option for artists and general users alike. With its competitive pricing, it provides an affordable alternative to other tablets on the market. While it may have some flaws in terms of drawing precision, it excels in other areas such as note-taking and general usage. If you are in the market for a new tablet and drawing is not your top priority, I highly recommend considering the Xiaomi Pad 6.
The Xiaomi Pad 6, combined with the Xiaomi Smart Pen 2, offers a decent drawing and illustration experience, especially for those who are new to digital drawing or do not heavily rely on lines. Its affordability makes it a practical choice for individuals on a budget. While there are other tablets with better line quality, the Xiaomi Pad 6 still delivers satisfactory results with the use of stabilizers. We look forward to the future improvements in the Xiaomi Pad 7. Don’t forget to like, comment, and share if you enjoyed this review, and subscribe to keep up with more videos.
